Piriformis Syndrome can have similar presentation as sciatica. It is sometimes caused by sitting too long on one side of the buttocks especially if the legs are crossed. The piriformis muscle becomes involved and puts pressure on the sciatic nerve. Failure to address this issue might lead to a chronic condition which can in turn create compensation on other areas such as the low back and pelvic regions. Those who present with piriformis syndrome are excellent candidates for chiropractic care. It usually takes a few treatments to correct this problem. After the initial symptom of pain has been eliminated, chiropractic care is continued along with muscle stretching and strengthening. Awareness of correct posture and biomechanics is essential to prevent re-injury.
The piriformis muscle may put pressure on the sciatic nerve. Avoid putting your wallet on the back pocketto prevent your piriformis muscle from getting irritated.
